Hello,
At around 8:00 PM GMT -7 we were alerted to all 3 of our locations eating a large, highly distributed DDOS attack, overwhelming our network capacity in all locations.
At 8:37PM GMT -7 we received a message on our community Discord server from a user demanding a small (~$900) sum of bitcoin to stop the attacks. By this point we were already working with a DDOS protection vendor that supported BGP, allowing us to quickly onboard our IP blocks. Either way, here’s the text that was put into the channel:

We obviously didn’t pay a dime of this. Never do that.
We were already working to buy more bandwidth capacity in all of our locations to feed new company growth, but we will be pushing to dramatically increase our uplinks to our upstreams in each location. We will also be keeping a fallback DDOS protection provider, path.net, onboard just incase something happens.
Path.net went out of their way to get us onboarded as fast as humanly possible, even making calls to their upstreams to refresh their BGP prefix lists so we didn’t have to wait for automatic refreshes. They’ve been incredibly helpful and we look forward to doing more business with them in the future.
We thank you for your patience in this. We know this isn’t how any of us wanted to spend our New Years.
