Hello,
We’re reaching out to you about our plans for our Tokyo 1 datacenter in 2018.
Recently, we sent you a ticket to let you know that your Xen Linode(s) in Tokyo 1 would be upgraded to KVM in order to mitigate against the Meltdown vulnerability.
In 2018, we plan to migrate all customers from Tokyo 1 to Tokyo 2, which will require a period of downtime while your Linode migrates. Because your pending Xen to KVM upgrade will also require some downtime, we’d like to strongly suggest that you take this opportunity to also migrate to Tokyo 2.
In addition to avoiding two separate periods of downtime, moving to Tokyo 2 now will give you access to current and future Linode products that aren’t and won’t be available in Tokyo 1:
Tokyo 2 will give you access to our latest plans, including our $5 plan, and our newest hardware.
Tokyo 2 is connected to the Linode Backbone Network, which interlinks our datacenters globally and provides superior routing to what’s been available in Tokyo 1.
Tokyo 2 will soon get our new Block Storage service.
If you’d like to migrate to Tokyo 2, please open a ticket with our Support team, and we’ll be happy to help you get started.
